A NORTHWICH trio have started up a not-for-profit vegetable delivery service.

Rob Cheadle, 27 and from Weaverham, launched the Village Veg Company after finding himself out of work during the current coronavirus pandemic.

As a self-employed chef, he is one of hundreds in the town and thousands across the country that have had their employment status affected.

But alongside his partner Becky Forster, from Comberbach, and work colleague John Pickering, from Wincham, he will now be delivering veg to people across the town.

The business will not be operating for profit, as the cost of the boxes simply covers the cost to put them together and deliver them.

The goal is to help those struggling to get to the shops while self-isolating, and to ensure that people are still eating fresh and healthy produce while stuck indoors.

Northwich Guardian:

“We started the business initially as something to do and to keep ourselves busy,” Rob said.

“I bought the stock from the place that I was working before the lockdown and we sorted it into boxes to sell to people all over Northwich.

“Hopefully, we can carry on operating it in the long term, as I’ve got plenty of contacts through work.

“We wanted to help people at this time, and this is the best way that we can do so.”

The fruit and vegetables provided in the boxes are sourced from local markets, and are purchased, packed and delivered on the same day so that they remain as fresh as possible when they arrive.

Northwich Guardian:

A standard veg box, costing £15, includes items such as potatoes, carrots, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and mixed peppers.

To add six eggs and four pints of milk is an additional £4, and a sliced loaf of bread is £2 on top.

Fruit hampers cost £12, or £10 when ordered alongside a veg box, and include apples, oranges, pears, strawberries, and bananas.

All prices include delivery, and any item unavailable will be substituted for another.
