Vauxhall Motors FC have written to the Football Association challenging their decision of last week to declare the non-league 2019-20 season at steps three to six 'null and void', suggesting three alternative avenues to deal with the situation.
The Motormen were one of just two clubs nationally that had effectively gained promotion in the North West Counties League prior to the announcement and are calling on the FA to adopt an alternative strategy in an effort to resolve the matter.
Support for the FA's decision to expunge the whole season's record is in short supply, with most clubs sharing the opinion that an alternative has to be found, a view supported by the NWCL itself.
Both manager Mick McGraa and chairman Tony Woodley made local radio appearances over the weekend, explaining the club’s position and suggesting ways forward.
The Ellesmere Port club have not totally given up on their promotion hopes after a stunning campaign that saw Motors win 27 of their 31 league fixtures, which included an unbroken sequence of 20 away victories in a row.
