YOU will have seen a lot of stories over the past few weeks about people panic buying toilet roll all over the country.

Many people, often those of an older generation or essential workers who struggle to get the shops early, have been unable to buy any as a result.

It’s not just toilet roll that has been snapped up unnecessarily, as pasta and rice has also been flying off the shelves.

To put a stop to this, Northwich resident Luke Ormerod has devised a clever calculator which works out just how long your toilet roll, pasta and wine supplies will last in quarantine.

“Our website is predominantly focussed on sporting tips, but then sport disappeared over night,” he said.

“We were thinking about what we could do now, and it was when I came back from the supermarket after not being able to buy any toilet roll that I had the idea.

“Initially it was a bit of fun, but as panic buying was becoming a joke, the calculator can be used as an important tool.

“There’s no need to panic buy, and our calculator will help to prove that to you. “

The quarantine calculators are simple to use, with the user adjusting sliders to determine how long supplies will last.

Northwich Guardian:

With toilet roll for example, tell the calculator how many sheets your toilet rolls have, how many sheets you use per visit, how many visits per day and how many people in the household.

If you add how many days you are in quarantine for, the calculator will then tell you how many toilet rolls you will need.

“We've worked out that the UK's largest family with 23 in their home would only need 140 toilet rolls, with the average family of four needing just 28 rolls,” Luke added.

“This is based on both being in quarantine for 14 days

“Hopefully, it makes people think before they panic buy.”

As a bit of fun, Luke has now also devised a calculator which tells you how long it will take to grow a good mullet and how long it will be after quarantine.
