A JET-SETTING couple who have travelled the world have said ‘I do’ after more than a decade together.

Emma Blackburn, 28, and Dave Smith, 33, grew up in the same village but did not know of each other due to the five year age difference.

The pair first crossed paths whilst having drinks in town and immediately hit it off.

The now Mrs Smith said: “There was some unhappiness about the five year age difference at first but there are no issues now.

“We met each other through my cousin who was the same age as Dave’s brother.

“Sparks immediately flew and we’ve been together ever since.”

The pair’s favourite hobby to do together is travelling.

The jet-setting couple have visited Las Vegas, New York, Dominican Republic, Amsterdam, Cyprus, Prague, Krakow, Dublin, Barcelona and many more.

“We both absolutely love travelling together," said Emma.

“The year Dave proposed we actually set a limit to how many city breaks we could go on.

“We did around seven that year which is still quite a lot.”

The pair became engaged in July 2018 in a romantic proposal featuring the couple’s beloved dog Lola.

“Dave had actually dressed her in a little tuxedo with the ring around her neck,” said Emma.

“Then we flew out to Amsterdam the next day to celebrate.”

The couple had an intimate wedding at the Low Wood Bay Hotel in Windermere.

There, they were joined by 12 of their closest friends and family.

“We didn’t want a big wedding," said Emma.

"We wanted it to be just family and close friends."

The wedding hit a few hiccups with the arrival of Storm Ciara.

“The morning was very eventful.

“The hair and makeup artist couldn’t get to the hotel. We ended up having to go get her in a pick-up truck.

“There were floods all around us and the roads were closed.

“It didn’t matter to us though or dampen our spirits.

"We were just happy to be together getting married.”

The newlyweds celebrated their 13th year together on the morning after their wedding.

The pair went on a mini-moon to Budapest after the wedding.

Then they travelled to Dubai and Bali for the real honeymoon.

Emma said it was "absolutely gorgeous".

“It was everything I had imagined and more.

“We were really lucky not to be affected by all the cancellations because of the coronavirus too.

“It was amazing.”
