EXCITED children will remember the fun and knowledge they discovered during science week for years to come.

Pupils at Willow Wood Community Nursery and Primary in Winsford enjoyed a 10 day celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths before their school closed.

Children watched chickens hatching, learnt all about bats and visited sealions at Chester Zoo.

Pupils observed eggs hatch into adorable chicks, courtesy of the Living Eggs programme. Not only did they experience life cycles and growth and development, the programme also encourages social interaction and promotes caring and nurturing skills.

The youngsters learnt how to identify the gender of chicks by making careful observations based on their plumage.

Naomi Coates, early years foundation stage leader, said: “The children enjoyed building a pen for the chicks. They watched and talked about how much they had changed already. Then we drew some observational drawings of the chicks.”

Local bat enthusiast Ged Ryan, licensed member of Cheshire Bat Group, delivered workshops giving children of all ages a fascinating insight into the life of these fascinating creatures.
