Some forms of graffiti will not be taken down and day care services have been cut, in Wirral Council’s latest efforts to manage its resources amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Over the next three weeks, graffiti will only be removed if it is considered to be offensive.

Day care services have also been reduced in the borough and Wirral Evolutions – which support around 400 people with disabilities – now have just four people who require their support in person.

They are attending Pensby Wood three days a week.

Age UK has also stopped day care services and will instead provide support for people in their own homes, with council assistance.

Other changes include a reduction in the coverage of street cleaning services.

Wirral Council said they are only being focused on “specific parts of the service”, in addition highway weeding will be stopped for three weeks.

Three more council services are affected by the latest cutbacks.

They are:

Youth Services: All youth hubs, youth clubs and youth outreach has now stopped.

The council is working with partners to provide online access to support and activities for young people.

West Kirby Marine Lake: The path around the Marine Lake is closed as the nature of the path and its popularity means it will be difficult to maintain social distancing.

Visitor Centres: All visitor centres around the borough are officially closed.

As well as these closures, Jobcentres have been closed.

Those who need them can access support at dwp.gov.uk and in emergencies only people can call their Jobcentre directly on the following phone numbers.

Bromborough – 0151 644 4462

Birkenhead – 0151 551 6658 / 0151 268 6395 / 0151 551 8696

Upton – 0151 551 6536

The number of coronavirus deaths in the UK now stands at 427, with more than 8,000 confirmed cases of the virus.

In an effort to support it through the coronavirus crisis, around 250,000 Britons have signed up to volunteer with the NHS.

In other developments, UK vehicle owners have been given a six-month exemption from MoT testing.
