CHAMPAGNE and cake was the order of the day for one special Cuddington resident on her 100th birthday.

Joan Valle celebrated her big day by having a cream tea lunch with many of her friends from Hartford Bridge Club.

A keen bridge player, Jane attends the club twice a week and said that she couldn’t have a party on her actual birthday because she wanted to play bridge that evening.

The club was hoping to welcome her down to help her celebrate with champagne and a special cake, but as it has had to close due to coronavirus, Joan enjoyed her cake and bubbles at home.

She also celebrated by visiting Abbeywood Garden Café in Delamere with friends, where a very kind unknown young couple insisted on paying for her drinks bill after discovering that it was such a milestone birthday.

Northwich Guardian:

Towards the end of her party, Joan had everyone singing ‘Adieu Adieu’ and told some amusing stories about her life during the war when she was a teenager.

Speaking about Joan, members of Hartford Bridge Club said: “She is a popular member of the club and has a variety of partners of all ages.

“Joan likes to play her bridge hands at a good speed whilst enjoying an occasional glass of wine and still manages to win at times.

“She thoroughly enjoyed her party and appreciated the congratulatory communication from The Queen.”
