RESIDENTS are being asked to play their part in supporting those in self-isolation with Covid-19 symptoms.

Hundreds of people are now shutting themselves away to stop the spread of the deadly strand of coronavirus, including elderly people who may have been unable to buy in extra food and supplies.

Jess Ashworth, from Weaverham, is looking to lend a hand by gathering information on those need support, and calling on volunteers to help donate as you would to a foodbank or even deliver care packages where needed.

Jess said: “With all the panic-buying posts that are circulating, it makes me think of elderly people who are struggling and getting out to see nothing left on the shelves.

“These are people who are maybe getting the bus into town with one bag and can’t stockpile the same as people who can drive might be able to.

“They are putting themselves at risk every time they go out. It’s breaking my heart.

“I get why people are doing it – it’s scary. But we have to think logically about this – no one is going to go without and there is enough for everyone. It’s just getting it to the right people.”

If you feel that you could benefit from support or a delivery of supplies to your house, contact Jess on 07969071146 or email northwichhelpathand@hotmail.com

Similarly, if you can donate food or help deliver, contact Jess or head to Northwich Covid-19 Self Isolation Support Group on Facebook.

At this stage, Jess is looking to secure donation drop-off points. In the meantime, the group will try to arrange to collect from you.

Priority items include tinned meat, tinned vegetables, tinned fruit, long-life milk, instant soups, pasta, rice, bread, toilet roll and toiletries.

Jess said: “We have got a few people together already, but I know there are so many people who want to help wherever they can.

"It’s something we are all going to have to help out with.”
