ONE of the town’s most historic and well-loved buildings could be used as a wedding venue in the future.

The Plaza, which opened in 1929, was host to the Music Making a Difference fundraiser last month in aid of traders affected by the market fire.

It’s quite easy to see the Grade II-listed building used as a music venue, but not many would have foreseen The Plaza being used as a potential venue for couples to tie the knot in.

But visionaries from Winsford-based Tipi Unique are proposing exactly that, and their recent photoshoot at the venue shows why their idea is not as radical as it may seem.

“At Tipi Unique we’re always on the look-out for the next upcoming wedding and event trends, and when we stumbled upon The Plaza, we couldn’t quite believe our luck,” said the company’s event planner Roanna Williams.

“The Plaza is such a hidden gem and makes for an incredibly iconic venue that is perfect for those who wish to create a bespoke experience.

Northwich Guardian:

“It is an old and quirky listed building dating back to the late 1920s, so we made it our duty to pay homage to that wonderful and unconventional decade.

“The aim of our shoot was to bring awareness and business to The Plaza, whilst celebrating the services and talent offered by the team involved.

“Our dedicated team is busy working behind the scenes to have the shoot published in a top online wedding blog - the perfect way to applaud and gain exposure for The Plaza and everyone’s hard work.”

As part of the shoot, the Tipi Unique team installed one of their giant tipis inside the main hall alongside striking lighting to take advantage of the building’s beautiful Art Deco features.

All suppliers brought their own unique twist to the 1920s brief, sourcing antique props, luxurious furnishings and embellished bridal gowns.

Will Godfrey, owner of The Plaza, believes that the idea of using the building as a wedding venue does have potential, and is something that he is considering for the future.

Northwich Guardian:

He added: “The team from Tipi Unique got in touch regarding using The Plaza as a wedding venue, and it was them that brought all the ideas and put in the hard work.

“It is definitely something we would be interested in looking to in the future as it is such a beautiful building.

“It’s easy to see the building as a music venue, but using it as a wedding venue is not something we had thought about before.

“There is quite a long process involved in getting a licence for these sorts of things however, and we are still quite a way off in terms of completing the refurbishments.

“But the event went really well and is something that we can hopefully see happen in the future.”
