NORTHWICH town mayor Kevin Rimmer has issued a plea for ‘mindless vandalism’ in Verdin Park to end.

This comes after the town council agreed costs with its insurance company to replace benches and damaged granite near the Robert Verdin monument.

The work will be completed when a delivery of granbite arrives and the benches will then be moved to Vickersway Park.

And Cllr Rimmer says that senseless acts such as this should not happen again, as money to repair the damage could be better spent elsewhere.

“This is the second time that Northwich Town Council has had to pay to repair vandalism at Verdin Park,” he said.

“It is out and out mindless vandalism, and there is absolutely no need for it.

“This is a plea from me, as town mayor on behalf of the people of Northwich, for acts of this kind to stop and to not happen again.

Northwich Guardian:

“Incidents of vandalism such as this cost thousands of pounds to repair.

“This money could be and should be better spend elsewhere on something that will benefit the people of Northwich.

“There is no sense in it.

“The majority of people enjoy the park as it is, and it’s just a handful of idiots who try and spoil it.”

At this month’s town council meeting, it was also confirmed that work on the new play area within Verdin Park will commence during the first week in April.

Council clerk Chris Shaw added that the new equipment will be located in the same location as the current play area is, and that Northwich Town Council staff will be removing the existing play equipment in the coming weeks.
