A FEASIBILITY study is set to be carried out on Middlewich Town Hall as councillors look to either renovate the building or move to a more suitable location.

Cllr Mike Hunter's motion to explore 'ASAP' the cost of renovation, the cost of a new build on land next to the civic hall, and the renovation of the civic hall was backed unanimously at a full town council meeting on Monday.

Cllr Hunter said: "We have talked for a number of years about moving and never really got anywhere with it.

"We need to find out what is wrong with the place to decide whether it's financially viable to renovate or to move.

"That is what this seeks to do."

Cllr David Latham lent his support, saying: "I worked alongside the previous clerk and through my background as a builder carried out a report of my own into the state of the buildings.

"There is no easy to say that it is in a very poor state of repair. The roof costs alone could be in the region of £55-60,000 and that is being very careful.

"I support the motion on knowing that the items wrong with the building are considerable."
