WORK is due to start this week to fell trees which border Holmes Chapel Community Centre because of safety concerns over branches falling into residents;’ gardens.
Parish council clerk Tina Cartlidge said: “On Wednesday, February 19 work will begin to fell the seven poplar trees that border the Community Centre, by local tree surgeon Alan Bethell.
“It is expected the work will take a few days. There will be some noise and parking restrictions at the Community Centre whilst the work is taking place.
“Unfortunately, there have been occasions of large branches from the poplar trees falling into neighbouring residents gardens.
“The parish council believed that the risk of a branch falling and potentially seriously injuring someone was too severe and decided that the most appropriate step was to remove them altogether.

“The seven trees will be replaced with new trees; four ornamental trees at the entrance to the community centre, and three willow trees by the skate park.”
