PHASE two of flood defences have been deployed in Northwich by the Environment Agency this morning, Monday.
Teams have been fitting demountable barriers and floodgates in the town centre, on London Road and at Barons Quay.
This follows the first stage of the £7 million scheme being implemented by teams yesterday afternoon.
A flood alert remains in force in catchment areas of the River Weaver, including Northwich, Winsford, Frodsham, Nantwich and Crewe.
This urges residents to ‘be prepared’ for possible flooding as river levels continue to rise.
A tweet by the Environment Agency north west reads: “Teams are continuing to take action to reduce the potential impacts of Storm Dennis.
“We are now deploying phase two of the £7m Northwich scheme as a precautionary measure against high river levels.
“This increases the standard of protection for more than 400 properties.”
An updated flood alert has been issued by the flood information service this morning.
It reads: “River levels are high as a result of Storm Dennis, but are beginning to fall.
"We currently expect river levels will remain above the flood alert threshold until this evening.
"We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the Rivers Weaver, Ducklow and Wheelock and their tributaries.
"Our incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue further flood warnings if necessary.
"Please be aware of your surroundings and keep up to date with the current situation."
