AN Ellesmere Port man burgled more than £1,300 of items from a home – including £200 from a 13-year-old boy's savings tin.

Chester Magistrates Court heard Thomas Steadman, 33, of Princes Road, had a bad record for thievery, with convictions for 15 theft offences in the last 12 months alone.

Appearing from the cells on Monday, January 27, Steadman pleaded guilty to the burglary, which happened on January 21.

Prosecuting, Hannah Scott said it was at about 1.30pm when the victim and his family returned home to find a glass panel had been smashed and suspected there had been a break-in.

Police were called and a search carried out revealed items stolen were from the 13-year-old son's bedroom, where a Playstation 4, four controllers, 15 Playstation 4 games and a Coca-Cola money box containing £200 – including savings and the boy's Christmas money – had been taken. Also stolen was an iPad.

Steadman also pleaded guilty to several other thefts, including more than occasion where he had stolen alcohol from Asda, and 24 packets of Pringles from B&M.

Defending, Stephen Ferns said no bail application would be made.

Steadman was remanded in custody and will be sentenced at Chester Crown Court on February 24.
