BODY parts confirmed to be those of a missing woman from Hale have been found near to Manchester Ship Canal.

Marie Scott, a mum of two, was reported missing from her home in December 2017.

In December 2019, Cheshire Constabulary received a report that suspected human remains had been seen on the Northside of Manchester Ship Canal on Mersey marshes.

DNA testing confirmed this week that the body parts belonged to Mrs Scott. It comes just a year after a human leg was found the River Irwell, Pendleton, which was identified as Mrs Scott.

Her family have been informed and are receiving support from police who say they are committed to providing them much-needed and deserved answers.

Mrs Scott went missing after boarding a tram from Altrincham to Manchester. The last known sighting of Mrs Scott was in Bury, which was captured on CCTV. She was seen outside It’s a Baby on Rochdale Road at the junction with Heywood Street at 3.15pm, Monday, December 18 2017.

Enquiries into the circumstances surrounding Mrs Scott's disappearance continue, but police say at this time, there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and that no one else is believed to be involved in her disappearance.

Detective Inspector Simon Akker, of GMP’s Trafford district, said: “Having been personally involved in Marie’s case since she was reported missing in 2017, and having met with her family several times, my heart truly goes out to them.

“This has been an agonising journey for those closest to Marie and we will support them as they continue to come to terms with the loss of Marie."
