FIREFIGHTERS have been working throughout the night to tackle a fire which broke out in a three-storey block of flats.

Reports of the blaze on Church Road were received shortly before 2am this morning, Tuesday, in a three-storey property which is split into four flats.

On arrival, firefighters found that the fire had spread to the first and second floors as well as the roof space.

One person has been sent to hospital as a precaution with suspected smoke inhalation.

Fire crews used breathing apparatus, two jets and an aerial appliance to tackle the fire from the roof and from inside the property.

A large fan was also used to disperse smoke from a neighbouring property.

The fire has now been extinguished, with firefighters remaining on the scene to dampen down the property, using a thermal imaging camera to check for any hotspots.

At its height, fire engines attended from Northwich, Winsford, Middlewich and Stockton Heath fire stations, aided by an aerial appliance from Lymm

Church Road and Witton Street remain closed at present.
