RECYCLING Christmas trees has raised a phenomenal £33,000 for St Luke's!

Volunteers collected more than 3,000 trees in just four days.

In a meticulously planned operation, 45 teams of staff, volunteers and local organisations braved the bad weather last week to collect Christmas trees in return for a donation to the hospice.

In total 3,002 trees were collected across mid and south Cheshire, raising £33,000. This equals an average generous donation of £11 per tree from St Luke’s supporters.

The tree collection is beneficial not only for raising money but to also help the environment by responsibly shredding the trees which will be turned into wood chippings.

Jane Thompson, head of events at St Luke’s, said: “We’re delighted with this year’s results from our annual Christmas tree collection which was once again sponsored by RedRow Homes.

"Every year the collection grows in size and we’re so grateful to all our volunteers and local companies who helped over the weekend to collect trees.

"We’d also like to thank the lovely people at Dominos pizza in Winsford and Sandbach who generously fed our hardworking teams.”

“We’d like to thank JustHelping and all of the local companies who volunteered their time including Northwich Round Table, Northwich Running Club, TBElectrics, Tarporley Rotarians, ANSA, Sandbach Crosses Rotarians, Middlewich Round Table, Event Equipment Limited, SP Energy Networks and Melody Corporation Marquees.

"Without the help of local businesses, staff and hospice warehouse teams and volunteers, we simply couldn’t do the collection. "We’re excited to return for our ninth year in 2021 and are hoping to collect even more trees!”

The collected trees don’t have a monetary value but will be turned into wood chippings at various sites including Reaseheath College, Marbury Country Park, Willis Bros Sandbach, Holmes Chapel Community Centre, Roadside Farm, Witter Farm Supplies, Baddington Christmas Tree Farm and PettyPool Guide Camp.

The money raised from St Luke’s Hospice Christmas Tree collection will help provide vital care for patients and their families across mid and south Cheshire.
