LOCAL Ukulele band Lostock Ukes have raised more than £2,000 for St Luke’s Hospice.

The musicians played at 44 events during 2019, including several care homes and residential homes, where residents enjoyed singing along to lots of old time favourites.

Some of the songs rekindled happy memories bringing smiles and pleasure to everyone.

Graham Edgeley, from Lostock Ukes, said: "Our choice of Save The Last Dance For Me helped in re-uniting a husband and wife at one care home, to which they both got up to dance with each other.

"They were both residents but hadn’t interacted till then. The staff were in tears and the Ukes players felt very humble."

The band has performed at three Ukulele Festivals and plucked their strings all over Cheshire from Hoylake and Nantwich to Lymm as well as several in Mid-Cheshire, each time receiving very generous donations for St Luke’s.

At Christmas 2018, they donated more than £880 to the hospice and set out to match that amount in 2019.

"To achieve £2,187 in the year to December is unbelievably gratifying and our thanks go to all the contributors," added Graham.

The Ukes have a regular attendance at their fun get-togethers and look forward to another year of support to St Luke’s again in 2020.
