A LARGE steam release from pipes behind Barons Quay is being dealt with by Eon engineers.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service crews were called out around 2.15pm after members of the public mistook the steam for 'a large plume of smoke'.
However, the incident has been assessed by energy network engineers who say there is no risk to the public. All businesses remain open as normal.
A Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "On arrival crews discovered a large amount of steam was emitting from an industrial pipe behind the shopping centre on Barons Quay Road.

"A small cordon was put in place as a precautionary measure and a service road was closed.
"Representatives of Eon, the company responsible for the pipe, were called to the site and the incident was left in their hands.
"There is not believed to be any risk to the general public."

The network of pipes links the Winnington and Lostock works, and is managed by Eon.
Firefighters were in attendance for around two hours and 45 minutes.
