LOCAL nursery children were the guests of honour at the opening of the Co-op's newest shop in Hoylake.
The new 2,800 sq ft store, based at the former site of the Blue Anchor pub on Market Street, opened on Friday, December 6 with the help of children from nearby Sanderlings Day Nursery.
Opening between 6am until 11pm daily, the new store has customer car parking, a free cash machine, coffee dispenser, Amazon lockers and a bakery.
Rhona Cossy, Co-op store manager, told the Globe: “We have had a great response – we are delighted to have the opportunity to carry out such significant investment in the area.
"It really is exciting to be opening Co-op’s newest store and we are looking forward to serving the community. Our new store which has a great new look and range.
"Connecting communities and bringing people together is at the core of the Co-op and our aim is to operate at the heart of local life, a community hub.
"The investment is a great way to mark the Co-op’s 175th anniversary year!”
Running on 100% renewable electricity, the new store will also help provide a cash boost for local causes through Co-op's membership scheme.
Co-op members will also receive a 5% reward on purchases of own brand products with the retailer donating a further 1% to local causes.
There is also compostable carriers for shoppers who forget their bags-for-life and can be used as a food waste caddy liner which can be turned into peat free compost.
Co-op area manager David Kay said: “Co-op is committed to making a difference and creating value in its communities – our focus is all about delivering what our members and customers want, need and care about, conveniently.
"We also want the community to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op, and every time a Co-op product or service is bought by our members, local community groups receive funding.”
