A HUGE thank you has been issued to the whole Northwich community after more than £2,500 was raised for a Rudheath eight-year-old battling a rare cancer.

Saul Barry Hayden, who will celebrate his 9th birthday tomorrow, Sunday, is currently undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with stage 4 malignant Rhabdoid tumour in April.

To help his family during this difficult time, an afternoon tea event was held at Rudheath Primary School.

And organiser Pauline Gray has issued a massive thanks to everyone who donated prizes, money and time to raise a total of £2,650 which will go towards sending Saul on a dream holiday to America.

Northwich Guardian:

“The afternoon tea event was absolutely amazing and we were able to raise a fantastic amount for Saul’s family,” she said.

“Everyone chipped in by donating raffle prizes or buying tickets and the effort from the whole community was brilliant.

“We received prizes from all over Cheshire and I just want to say a big thank you to everyone who came along and made the event such a success.”

Organisers have said that they were delighted to have smashed their fundraising target and that all the work was worth it after seeing how grateful Saul’s family were.

Northwich Guardian:

“One of the nicest things about the afternoon tea was how supportive the family were,” Pauline added.

“They were really overwhelmed and grateful after we gave them the proceeds and they could not believe that so many people had come out to help.

“We hoped to raise between £1,500 and £2,000, but we never imagined that it would go as high as it has done.

“It is just amazing to have raised such a large sum of money that can go towards sending Saul on his dream holiday to America.”
