THE Green Room Theatre in Wilmslow is staging Whisky Galore from December 7 to 14.

It’s 1955 and the Pallas Players, an all-female theatre company, are putting on a play.

They show us how the islanders of Great and Little Todday are dismayed to find their whisky supply dwindling as the government diverts the precious stuff to the Americans.

Relief seems to be at hand when a cargo vessel laden with 50,000 bottles of whisky shipwrecks close by, until stuffy and officious Paul Waggot takes it upon himself to prevent them from taking advantage of their good fortune.

This new adaptation by Philip Goulding of the funny Compton Mackenzie play is a real tribute to the feisty, fearless all-female touring theatre companies of the post-war years.

Witness the Pallas Players as they perform all the hilarious characters from Mackenzie’s tale in an innovative and beguiling play that breathes fresh life into a well-loved comedic masterpiece.

Directed by Victor Hassan, Whisky Galore runs from Saturday, December 7 to Saturday, December 14, and all performances start at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the Green Room Box Office, call 01625 540933 or bookable online via the theatre website: wgrsoc.org.uk/ 183 words.

The Saturday box office (11am to noon) is open tomorrow, December 7.
