TWELVE paintings capturing the vibrancy and beauty of Northwich have gone on display, showcasing the work of local artists.

The pop-up exhibition – made up of images featured in Visual Arts Cheshire's 2020 calendar – opened at the Lion Salt Works Museum on Saturday, November 30.

It runs until Sunday, January 5, located in the cafe with all welcome to come along and admire the pictures for free.

The 2020 calendar, which is the seventh in the series, costs £5 and will be available to buy at the museum shop as well as from Northwich Art Shop, Weaver Hall Museum and Work House, Northwich Library and Northwich Information Centre, or online at danarts.co.uk

The exhibition, being held in conjunction with the DAN Community and Northwich Art Shop, reproduces 12 original paintings from artists who live and work in Northwich and the surrounding area.

The images capture the town centre, some of Northwich;s historical sites, such as the Anderton Boat Lift, Wallerscote Island, Saltersford Tunnel, and images of the canal and River Weaver.

The twelve contributors comprise professional artists and highly talented amateurs whose work shows their love of Northwich.

Alan Carr, Visual Arts Cheshire chairman, said: “Northwich has so much to offer and the paintings are a lovely way to show off our town.

"Each year, the calendar becomes more popular. It is a great present for friends and family living locally as well as those who have moved away from the area.

"We are delighted that the paintings will be shown as large prints at the historic Lion Salt Works Museum and hope that as in previous years, the calendar will be a sell-out.”

Lisa Harris, director of place strategy at Cheshire West and Chester Council, said: “There is so much to celebrate in Northwich and this calendar is an imaginative and creative way of showcasing the town.

"The passion for their subject shines out in these original works, which have all been produced by local artists. I’m delighted that after seven years, this calendar is still going strong.”
