RUNNERS will brave the Marbury Park darkness as they take on an inaugural nighttime race this week.

The first Marbury Park Night Race, organised by Northwich Running Club, takes place on Wednesday, November 20 from 7.30pm.

The five-mile route takes in the woodlands, meadows and pathways of Marbury Park and Anderton Nature Reserve, and runners can expect mud, grass, narrow woodland paths and a few surprises along the way.

The race is sold out, with more than 200 entrants and 50 volunteers looking forward to the evening.

Joint race director Melanie Bradley said: "We're all excited about the race, it's a tough route and running fast in the dark isn't easy even with a head torch.

"There's been a lot of planning and preparation to make sure everyone is safe and enjoys themselves.

"I'm looking forward to the hot homemade soup which is the treat for runners and our wonderful volunteers afterwards."

Head torches and trail shoes are compulsory, with the race starting and finishing near the Ranger Cabin at Marbury Country Park.
