A 73-year old has left her health problems well and truly behind her thanks to fitness classes on offer at Memorial Court.

Jennie Connor was a pre-diabetic and was having trouble with her hip slipping out of joint before getting stuck into bodypump and bodycombat classes at her local leisure centre.

She has also previously broken her shoulder and was diagnosed with osteoporosis, which left her reliant on medication to suppress the pain.

As someone who had previously been active through racket sports, Jennie was advised to stop exercising to avoid any further damage to her physical health.

But she is now among the growing elderly population in west Cheshire that are changing the perception of exercise at a late age.

“As an older person, you might not want to try out classes like bodypump, but I highly recommend it as it has helped me so much and increased my confidence,” she said.

Jennie first took up Pilates as an alternative to spending lots of money on treatments to keep her hip in joint and found it to be really helpful.

Now she hardly walks with a limp, and her hip rarely slips out of joint.

Jennie Connor then started to partake in bodypump classes and was able to reach her goals of weight loss and improved mobility.

It was only a matter of time before Jennie was two and a half stone lighter and lifting 30kg weights during her regular classes.

Through discussion with her doctor, she has also cut down her dosage of blood pressure tablets and reversed the effects of Osteoporosis.

Of Jennie, Brio Leisure managing director Elly McFahn said “I am extremely proud of her achievements and of the Brio team in providing opportunities for our older community to gain confidence, meet new people and help reverse the effects of poor physical health.

“Jennie is an inspiration to others, and it just shows what’s possible through a combination of skilled advice, motivation and dedication”.
