A VIBRANT fiesta packed with music, dance, storytelling and workshops is heading to Merseyside this weekend.

Fiesta Latina, taking place from Friday, October 18 to Saturday, October 19, will bring the very best of Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Brazil, Mexico and Bolivia to Edge Hill University.

Audiences can expect performances from the likes of Mestisa who will bring their haunting melodies and popular songs from across South America and Calfun who will perform a fusion of original and traditional tracks from the continent.

There will also be mystical storytelling from LUMA Creations who will transport listeners across the Andean mountains into the tropical rain forests plus a performance from Edge Hill University Dance Company choreographed by Estibaliz Moure Abad and Francisco Cararsco.

An exhibition showcasing inspirational Latin American women activists and artists will also take place with a discussion.

Arts manager Dr Cathy Butterworth said: “The Arts Centre at Edge Hill University are really delighted to be working in collaboration with the fantastic LUMA Creations on the wonderful Fiesta Latina.

"It’s amazing for us to be bringing such a range of artists, performers and speakers to the campus for an action-packed two days full of activity.

It’s so important for us to work in partnership with organisations of the calibre of LUMA Creations to deliver rich and exciting programmes of work, bringing different cultural perspectives to the university and to Lancashire, a wealth of arts and performance for our students and local audiences.”
