LYMM High School student Joe Talbot has followed in the footsteps of some of motorcycle racing's most famous names.

By winning the Thundersport GP3 Superteens Championship, the 15-year-old joins a club that includes the likes of MotoGP rider Cal Crutchlow.

He won the title back in 2001 while Australia's multiple-time world champion Casey Stoner also came over to England to compete in this series.

In more general terms, there have been many instances of Superteens racers making the grade in MotoGP – the highest level of motorcycle racing – as well as British and World Superbikes.

By his own admission, it is a season that has gone "near enough perfect" for Talbot.

Having led from the first round, he only failed to finish on the podium in five out of 28 races as he secured the title in the penultimate round at Cadwell Park.

With winter training in Spain now on the horizon, Talbot says his motivation to keep achieving is as strong as ever.

"My feelings about winning the championship are speechless," he said.

"I just can not wait to feel the sensation of success again.

"It motivates me to keep on achieving.

"I felt confident going in to this season with all the gym training I had done in the off-season and with the bike testing we had completed."

"I think the season has gone near enough perfect.

"We have only had one bike break down and I have been on the podium at every round.

"In addition through out the season I have definitely improved in my race craft, allowing me to have the ability to think quickly whilst racing and when under pressure.

"I have also learnt to compose myself when out in front and leading races."
