A MAN has been found guilty of causing the death of a 19-year-old woman by dangerous driving in Birkenhead.

Charlotte Carroll, from West Kirby, was involved in a collision with a black Honda Civic car on Conway Street just before 12am on Saturday, May 19, 2018.

Charlotte was taken to hospital by paramedics but later died as a result of her injuries.

Carl White, of Larch Grove, Bidston pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving at Liverpool Crown Court.

He was sentenced today (Monday, October 14) to four years and six months and has been disqualified from driving for six years and three months with a requirement to take an extended retest.

Sergeant Philip Mitchell from Merseyside Police Roads Policing Unit said: “It is very sad when a young person loses their life on one of our roads and I hope this sentencing brings some kind of closure for the family.

"This was a tragic and avoidable accident where a young woman lost her life and her family are now sadly having to live their lives without her.

“Drivers must remember that their car could become a lethal weapon when they do not take due care and attention on our roads.

"I would encourage everyone to be more thoughtful about other drivers and pedestrians to make sure fatal collisions like this one do not happen again.

“Driving dangerously can have serious and fatal consequences and I hope this shows others that they will be put before the courts and prosecuted it they are found guilty of a similar offence.

"I’d like to thank the public for their help and coming forward to share information as well as our first response officers and other emergency services who dealt with the aftermath of the incident and whose investigative tactics have led to today’s outcome.”
