THE expressive fine art of national contemporary artist, Osian Gwent, has been exhibited at the National Assembly for Wales.

The exhibition, facilitated by Montgomeryshire Assembly Member, Russell George, has showcased a selection of Osian’s larger canvasses during the summer from July 4 until November 1st 2019.

Osian studied painting in Newport and Cheltenham schools of fine art, with extended studies in Oxford and Bath before moving to Asia and the United States in 1995. He returned to Wales in 2016 and has exhibited his work in London and across the country. His work is being curated for an exhibition in Derry, Northern Ireland, later next year.

In 2018, he was approached by the National Library of Wales with a request to archive his work and in January 2019, he opened “Art by Osian”, a working studio and gallery on Short Bridge Street in Llanidloes which is open Monday to Friday (9am – 5pm) and Saturday (10am – 4pm).

On the exhibition, Mr George said: “I would like to thank Osian for agreeing to exhibit his work at the Senedd over the summer and was delighted to welcome him to Cardiff Bay this week so that he could see his work on display.

“He is an incredibly talented artist and it was my pleasure to be able to facilitate the exhibition to showcase the work of a local artist from Llanidloes.

“I would encourage everyone to take the opportunity to visit his studio and gallery in Llanidloes to view a selection of his modern and contemporary artwork.”

Osian Gwent added: “I am thankful for this amazing opportunity to add a little colour to the corridors of power here at the Senedd. I am extremely thankful to Russell George AM for his support

and encouragement of the arts in Wales.

"I would also like to thank the members of the Welsh Assembly staff who helped to facilitate and coordinate this exhibition."
