GET the crackers and chutney at the ready as a festival dedicated entirely to cheese comes to Northwich’s Lion Salt Works Museum.
Promising to be a gouda festival that will satisfy even the strongest of cheese-lovers' taste buds, CheeseFEAST is a two-day boutique weekend event on November 16 and 17 featuring an indulgent day-long programme of cheese-related talks, cookery demonstrations and of course tastings.
As the UK’s industry leader in cheese making and diary courses, Cheshire’s Reaseheath College will be sharing their expert knowledge on the cheese and dairy industry, along with cheese-inspired cooking demonstrations across the two-day event.
Visitors can look forward to a tour around a specially curated exhibition of archive cheese and diary implements from across the county’s museums, including ‘quirky’ and amusing tales of Cheshire’s diary and cheese success.
If you thought the notorious cheese eating duo, Wallace & Gromit, had been forgotten then feast your eyes on this.
In an exclusive partnership with Aardman Animations, the original model of ‘The Cheese Tent’ that featured in the animated film ‘Wallace & Gromit and the Curse of the Were-Rabbit’ will be displayed in the salt museum as part of the festival.

Saturday will see guest speaker Jenny Lindford, author of Great British Cheeses, take to the stage to talk about her book that profiles over 300 varieties of British cheese and essential tips into creating a mouth-watering cheese board.
Following Jenny, inventor of the ‘Periodic Table of Cheese Challenge’, Dan Akers, will be stepping up to explain what inspired the cheesy-tasting-challenge that will be held that evening.
Coinciding with UNESCO’s celebrations of the Periodic Table’s 150th anniversary and Mendeleev’s contribution to its structure, the quirky evening at the museum will put visitors’ cheese knowledge and taste buds to the ultimate test on unique and rare varieties.
Cheshire West and Chester Council cabinet member for wellbeing Cllr Louise Gittins, said: “The Lion Salt Works Museum is known for its imaginative and fun events and this one sounds as though it will appeal to anyone with a taste for cheese.”
The cheesy delights are not stopping there, as Sunday promises activities and more fascinating expert insights. This time from award winning Sandbach-based Joseph Heler Cheeses and long-established purveyors of fine food and cheeses, Geoffrey Williams & Sons.
“Almost all cheese has salt in it, so this is a clever way of bringing together two of our county’s specialities – salt and cheese. It promises to be a really interesting and tasty weekend and we welcome everyone along to this ‘grate’ event”, said Cllr Gittins.
CheeseFEAST takes place on November 16 and 17 at the Lion Salt Works Museum, running from 10.30am to 5pm.
