AN American writer is searching for a girl he hasn't seen since they were at school together in Northwich - 62 years ago!

Dad-of-two Francisco Lovato, known as Frank, who lives in California, was a pupil at St Wilfrid's Catholic Primary School in the town centre.

The 71-year-old grandad is now trying to find the girl who became his best friend back in 1955.

The only problem is all he has to track her down is her christian name, Angela, and the fact that her family used to run a restaurant.

But she made such an impact on his life, he flew back to England this week and returned to Witton Street to scour the school records.

Unfortunately, he was unable to find any more clues and is now appealing to the community for help.

"My friend Angela was a kind, benevolent and generous person," said Frank, who has two grown up children and two grandchildren.

"We had a connection and became best friends. We talked about all sorts of things."

Frank was living with his mum Evangeline and younger brother Patrick in the servants quarters at Davenham Hall whilst he dad served at bases including Burtonwood as part of the American Air Force.

"At school I was a mostly ostrasized 'Yank' with no pals except Angela," said Frank. "She modelled the possibility of a kinder world. I wish to thank her for the gift of her friendship and tell her how she was a veritable example of what a friend could be.

"Even to this day my best friends, confidants and most trusted friends are women.

"Angela's innocent, loving legacy has given me the will to move forward when it seems difficult or monumentally challenging.

"I know it's like looking for a needle in a haystack but the movie Desperately Seeking Susan has inspired me. I'm going to keep on looking for her."

Frank has published a book called Survivor to pay tribute to his late father Frank, after discovering that he was a forgotten hero in the Second World War, sinking 30 Japanese landing craft in a fierce battle.

His niece American pop star and actress Demi Lovato has also shot to worldwide fame after selling millions of records.

But Frank's dream would come true if he could be reunited with his long lost school friend.

He added: "Now as I approach the autumn years of my life it seems only fitting to return to Northwich and find her and express my gratitude for the most important role she played in shaping who I am today."
