NORTHWICH office staff will be among a group taking on a gruelling 34-mile walking trail in support of a local disability charity.

Later this month, 10 employees from Winsford-based Qwest Services will complete the Sandstone Trail to raise funds for Petty Pool charity and vocational college.

The Sandiway organisation provide education and training for young people with learning disabilities across Cheshire, Halton and Warrington.

And as well as offering work placements to students at the college, Qwest Services are hoping to raise funds to help them to expand.

“As a company, we try to hold events in the community to benefit people and organisations in the area,” said Denise Whiteland, one of the ten employees taking part in the challenge.

“We chose to support Petty Pool as we were overwhelmed with the support that they give to people, not only in Northwich, but across Cheshire.

“They help young people to gain vital skills and we hope that we can complete this challenge to help them to continue doing this.”

The Sandstone Trail is a 34-mile path following sandstone ridges from Frodsham to just over the Shropshire border.

In total, the challenge will take approximately 12 hours at walking speed, with some of the 10 employees taking part planning to run sections of the trail.

Denise added that while the group looked at a number of different challenges to take on, they decided on the Sandstone Trail as it is in Cheshire, their chosen charity is in Cheshire and the staff taking part all live in Cheshire.

The challenge will also encourage employees to be active, providing a welcome change to sitting behind a desk.

Staff from Qwest Services will be walking the Sandstone Trail on Saturday, September 28.
