FIREFIGHTERS have announced a new date for the annual Northwich Fire Station open day.

The station was set to welcome families on Saturday, August 10, but was forced to cancel as crews helped to tackle a huge blaze at a retirement complex in Crewe.

But the open day has now been rescheduled for Saturday, September 14 and promises to be a fun day for people of all ages.

The event will involve a number of safety displays and road traffic collision demonstrations, while visitors will also have the chance to look around a variety of fire and rescue vehicles.

This will include vintage fire engines and the Underwater Search and Rescue unit from Merseyside.

Duncan Palin, Northwich Fire Station Manager, said: “This is a great way for the community to learn more about their local fire station and some of the work we undertake.

“The crew will be doing operational demonstrations throughout the day, along with a number of other activities to keep visitors entertained.

“It will be a fun and informative day for all the family, and we want as many people to come along as possible.

“You will learn a lot about the life of a firefighter and the roles that they play in serving the local community, while picking up some vital safety messages to keep you and your family safe.”

The event is free to attend and refreshments will be available to buy on the day, including ice cream and icy drinks.

In addition, the Kidz bus soft play area, face painting, go carts and a variety of community stands have been booked in to entertain visitors on the day.

The open day will take place on Saturday, September 14 at Northwich Fire Station between 11am and 4pm.
