TWO employees at a Northwich office are able to offer colleagues support with mental health issues, following an innovative course.

As part of a new staff wellbeing programme, Gadbrook Park-based accountants Howard Worth put Joanne Hamilton and Victoria Percy through a two-day course run by MHFA England.

The course means they are now qualified to offer support and guidance on issues such as depression and anxiety in the workplace.

For Vicky, who has had her own struggles with depression, the course was a chance to help others in a similar situation.

She said: “Having struggled with depression myself, I understand that it can affect anyone at any time and just knowing that there is someone to talk to is very reassuring."

Jo wanted to take part having previously helped family members in tough times.

She said: “I haven’t experienced any mental ill health myself, but I have provided support to relatives in the past and appreciate how just talking to someone can make a difference”.

HR manager Sophie McCartney added: “For our staff to have access to two trained Mental Health First Aiders is hugely beneficial.

"Individuals can speak in confidence to Jo or Vicky and get support for any issues that are troubling them. We value our employees and making sure they are happy and supported in the workplace is a priority."

The wellbeing programme has included workshops, flexible working time, staff surveys and helpful individual tips.
