VISITORS will be transported back in time during a family fun day at Runcorn Fire Station.

As well as vintage fire engines, the Heath Road station’s annual open day from 11am to 4pm a week on Sunday, September 1 will also feature a performance from vintage vocalist LeeAnn James.

The professional singer will belt out a host of classic songs from the 1940s and visitors will also be able to enjoy a number of safety displays, barbecue food, face painting, a dunk a firefighter game and much more.

Station manager Stuart Devereux said: "Our free to attend annual open day is a great way for residents to find out about the work that we do and the equipment we use at Runcorn Fire Station.

"They can have a look around the station, sit inside a variety of fire and rescue vehicles, including vintage fire engines, and learn about the kit and equipment that our firefighters use.

"Our crews will be doing operational demonstrations throughout the day, including road traffic collision and kitchen fire displays, and visitors will also be able to enjoy a cadet experience and a blue light run experience incorporating GoPro footage from turnouts to fire and rescue incidents in Runcorn.

"In addition, there will be Paw Patrol mascots, a raffle, face painting, barbecue food and a dunk a firefighter game at the open day.

"But the highlight of the day is sure to be a showcase of 1940s music from professional vintage singer LeeAnn James, who lives locally and has kindly volunteered to perform for free for the benefit of the fire station and the people of Runcorn.

"I cannot thank her enough for doing so.

"With all that we have lined up, this year's open day is set to be the best one yet."

Refreshments will be available, including ice cream and icy drinks, and the event also offers visitors the chance to learn about the work of the 103 Regiment Royal Artillery, Runcorn Women's Institute, Runcorn Historical Society, Halton Carers Centre and Runcorn District Foodbank, who will all be represented at the fire station.

The 103 Regiment Royal Artillery will be running a Territorial Army recruitment drive at the event.

Runcorn WI will have a bake stand and Runcorn District Foodbank will be accepting donations on the day, with sponge puddings, mashed potato, shower gel, long-life fruit juice, tinned fruit and tinned fish particularly wanted.

Station manager Devereux added: "We want as many people to come along to fire station on Sunday 1 September as possible.

"It will be a fun and informative day for all the family.

"You will learn a lot about the life of a firefighter and the roles that they and the station play in serving the community, and you will also pick up some vital safety messages to keep you and your family safe."
