ONE in four of all grades picked up by sixth formers at St Nicholas today was an A* or an A – leading to a ‘delighted’ headteacher.

Richard Woods has paid tribute to the latest batch of A Level students after they opened their results this morning – with 46 per cent of all grades being either A*, A or B.

Mr Woods said: “Congratulations to all of our A-Level students who enjoyed many outstanding individual successes alongside an overall improvement on previous year’s outcomes here at St Nicholas.

“These excellent results are testament to the hard work and dedication of students and staff throughout the last two years and the previous five years of preparation for these crucial examinations.

“As a fully inclusive Catholic Sixth Form we are very proud of the achievements of our students.

Abigail Tighe, AAA

“We are delighted for all of our students and wish them every success as they begin this new and exciting chapter in their lives.”

There was strong individual success for Meghan Beech and Daniel Kay, who each secured all A* grades.

Meghan, who exceeded her own expectations and will begin her law studies at Oxford University in October, said: “I am absolutely shocked.

“Waiting for today has been hell – this week in particular was really stressful.

“I feel like when you first end your exams you think ‘it was alright’, but as it gets further and further away you get so much more pessimistic and you are convinced you haven’t done very well.

“It’s just a relief.”

All Oxbridge applicants from St Nicholas secured their places, while Natalie Slatford achieved A*A*AA, Emma Chappel-Robinson A*AA, Mia Hendley A*AAA and Abigail Tighe AAA.

Rob Morrisey, ABB

Rob Morrisey overcame a difficult couple of years to get ABB and a place at Durham, to study politics and philosophy.

He said: “The school were really good to me. I was a bit ill at times during it but the exams went ok – I got some good preparation in and a lot of help from the school.

“I think I finished on June 17 so it’s almost two months I have had to wait for today.

“I struggled to sleep last night. I woke up at about 4am, then 5am and 6am so at that point I thought I might as well just stay up. At 7.30am I got into Track and saw I had the offer – I think I woke the whole house up!”
