EMERGENCY services from across the county were sent to Northwich yesterday in an urgent attempt to rescue a woman from the River Dane.
Police received calls that a woman was in the river near to the Brio leisure centre Northwich Memorial Court, shortly after midnight.
Police, along with fire crews from six stations around Cheshire, and colleagues from North West Ambulance Service, were sent to the scene.
The woman was helped out of the water and handed into the care of the paramedics.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: "At 12:13am on Sunday 4 August emergency services were called to reports of a woman in the River Dane near to Chesterway, Northwich.

"Six fire crews from Northwich, Chester, Ellemere Port, Widnes, Warrington and Lymm attended and, assisted by police, used a harness, throwing lines and a safety line, helped the woman to safety.
"The casualty was handed to the care of North West Ambulance Service."
