A FOURTEEN-year-old boy was robbed at knifepoint in the street by two teenagers on Sunday night.

The youngster was with his friends, riding on his bicycle from the One Stop on Callands Road towards the footpath at the rear of the convenience store shortly before 7pm on Sunday, July 21, when he was subjected to the ‘terrifying ordeal’.

As he approached the park behind the shops, he was approached by two teens on an orange mountain bike – with one of the boys riding the bike and the other sat on the handlebars.

At this point, the teenager on the handlebars jumped off, pulled out a knife and demanded the victim’s yellow Voodoo mountain bike.

The robber then took the bicycle before riding off in the direction of Gemini Retail Park.

Shortly afterwards, two more bikes – a red B’Twin and a black Giant mountain bike – were stolen outside McDonald’s on the retail park while the owners were inside.

Police believe that the two incidents are linked.

The teen who brandished the knife was white, around 16 years old, 5ft tall and spoke with a Liverpudlian accent.

He and the other offender were wearing dark clothing, including hooded tops with the hoods up – hiding their faces.

This second suspect was wearing a North Face-branded hoodie.

Detective sergeant Ian McNabb said: “The 14-year-old boy who had his bike stolen at knifepoint has understandably been left extremely shaken up – he was subjected to a terrifying ordeal.

“He was not the only person who had their bicycle stolen around or in the Gemini Retail Park area.

“We believe that the bicycle thefts are linked, and we are determined to establish the identities of the offenders, make them face the consequences of their actions and have the bikes returned to their rightful owners.

“Enquiries are ongoing, and I urge anyone who was in the area and believes that they may have seen the offenders to contact the team here at Warrington Police Station.

“The same goes for anyone who thinks they may know who the offenders are or have CCTV or dashcam footage of them, or information regarding the whereabouts of the stolen bicycles.”

Chief inspector Simon Meegan has pleaded with members of the public to help Cheshire Police to combat knife crime in Warrington.

He added: “We are committed to doing all that we can to tackle knife crime in the town.

“It is an issue that we take extremely seriously, and Warrington Local Policing Unit will ensure that anyone found to be carrying a knife or committing a knife related offence in the town is brought to justice.

“But the police cannot beat knife crime without the help of the local community, and we urge anyone with information about people who may be carrying knives to come forward and speak to us or independent charity Crimestoppers.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Cheshire Police, quoting incident number IML463005 for the robbery or IML463017 for the bike thefts, or to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
