CHOOSING the right primary or secondary school for your child to attend can be a difficult task and one of the hardest decisions for a parent.

Luckily, Warrington has a vast array of brilliant schools, all of which could easily have won our School of the Year Category at the Warrington Guardian Schools Awards.

The judges spent a long time considering the best winner of this award but one school in particular caught their attention.

Coming top of the class this year was Culcheth Community Primary School who picked up the accolade, sponsored by Warrington's Own Buses.

So what makes our winning school so great?

It is a vibrant, happy and nurturing school at the heart of the community where children flourish both socially and academically.

It has a wealth of talented teachers who are expertly led by an outstanding leadership team and everyone personally knows and understands every child and their families.

Communication is key at this school and the head teacher, Amanda Dodd, is always at the gate to welcome everyone.

Thrilled Amanda took to the stage and said: "We are absolutely delighted to have won this award.

"At Culcheth Primary we are blessed with the most amazing, unique children who have a huge range of skills and treatments.

"We are immensely proud of every single one of them."

Not only were school staff there to share the spotlight, but some of the school's talented pupils had joined in with the evening too.

The Culcheth Primary choir had welcomed guests to the event with a heartwarming rendition of two popular songs, complete with dance actions.

It was only fitting that their teachers were recognised for their hard work, which is shown in the school's year on year improvement in it's academic performance.

As well as achievements in the classroom, the school's motto is 'where learning is fun' and this is clearly evident within all aspects of school life, from a community Easter egg hunt to an annual garden party.

Children said they feel valued and have developed confidence and independence that will stay with them throughout their lives.

Exceptional, superb and phenomenal are just a few of the adjectives used by both parents and pupils to describe Culcheth Community Primary School.

Finishing the evening on a high, Amanda added: “We are lucky to have very supportive parents and carers, the most brilliant, hardworking staff and governors.

“I am so proud, and honoured, to be a part of our wonderful school.”

Our highly commended school was St Peter's Catholic Primary School in Woolston.
