SUMMER activities will give children and families the chance to create everything from monsters to medieval villages at Weaver Hall Museum.

The museum, in London Road, is open throughout the summer with plenty of fun events and workshops on top of long-running exhibitions.

A former Victorian workhouse, the building itself is stepped in history and is will open its doors for a range of activities during the summer holidays.

Starting on Wednesday, July 31 and Thursday, August 1, 'Clay Monsters' offers the chance to create a pet monster in clay to take home.

On Wednesday, August 7 and Thursday, August 8, come and be the Lord or Lady of the manor by building a three-dimensional medieval village.

On Wednesday, August 14 and Thursday, August 15, children are tasked with getting as creative as they can by designing and making a mask inspired by heroes, villains or monsters.

The museum transforms into the seven seas on Wednesday, August 21 and Thursday, August 22 with a pirate event, where there is treasure to bury and maps to make and follow to help track it down.

Friday, August 23 sees the return of the annual Teddy Bears Picnic.

Bring a picnic to enjoy in the museum’s grounds – with space indoors if it's wet – and then go on a bug hunt and make a bughouse.

Finally, on Wednesday, August 28 and Thursday, August 29, meet the museum's resident Vikings and find out about their lives as well as making some artifacts and jewellery.

All events run 10am to 4pm at £2.
