A QUANTITY of refuse caught fire on open land in Northwich.
Crews were called to Heath Lane in Little Leigh shortly before 1.20pm yesterday.
A spokesman for Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "It was a case of controlled burning that had got out of control.
"A water shuttle was set up to get enough water to the area and firefighters extinguished the fire with a hose reel jet.
"The crew then worked with an on-site JCB to turn over the refuse and damp the area down to make it safe."
