THE annual Northwich Carnival is set take place this weekend.

The event begins with a parade and will crown the new Northwich Carnival Queen as part of the Northwich Festival of Arts.

We've broken down the event and all you need to know about the Carnival, as well as the most important information, in a handy guide.

When does it open and close?

On Saturday a parade will be setting off at 1pm to the main site.

The Carnival will be open on both days, from 1pm to 9pm on Saturday and from 11am to 6pm on Sunday and live music will be played from 6pm on Saturday.

Where is it?

The parade sets off from near Sainsbury's in Northwich Town Centre following the one-way system to Verdin Park where the rest of the events for the two days will be held.

What's on?

On Saturday there will be a parade at 1pm travelling to the main carnival site at Verdin Park where fairground attractions will be open to entertain and thrill visitors.

The Crowning ceremony of the carnival's Queen will be held at 3pm on Saturday followed by an afternoon of family entertainment including Dancers, bands, Tug-of-war, displays of football and boxing and local stalls.

After 6pm on Saturday there will be live music on stage, including the John Collins Band.

On Sunday, a car boot sale will be held from 8am to 5pm and the fairground attractions will be open from 11am. A dog show will also take place during the day.

Getting there

The Castle Street car park with postcode CW8 1BG is just off of Verdin Park or the Victoria Club car park with postcode CW9 5ER is also available just a 10 minute walk from Verdin park both with spaces available from 20 pence for two hours and 50 pence for up to four hours. Northwich railway station is just a 23 minute walk from Verdin Park and only a 15 minute walk from the Town Centre whilst the bus interchange is a stop for services in most surrounding areas and is only a 6 minute walk away from Verdin Park.

Entry to the Northwich Carnival is free.

Weather

The weather for both days of the carnival should be dry but partly cloudy and quite warm.
