MORE than 100 people sought cancer support from Macmillan specialists during a visit to Northwich on Thursday, June 20.

The cancer support charity brought its big green bus Basil to Tesco in Manchester Road, inviting anyone in to ask questions about the disease.

Mobile Information and Support Service team helped 113 people on topics including skin and prostate cancer, supporting loved ones, finances, and treatment side-effects.

They covered a wide range of concerns, such as queries about skin and prostate cancer, and how to support friends and family, to questions about finances following a diagnosis and the long-term side effects of treatment.

Anna Murchie, a Macmillan specialist on the unit, said: “Basil’s team of frontline health and social care professionals offer vital support, advice and information on a range of issues, including different treatments, financial advice, exercise, getting back to work, or what local services might be available.

“During our visit to Northwich we engaged with over 100 people. This included really in-depth, confidential, conversations with people on a variety of cancer related issues to handing out information leaflets for people to take away and read.

"We know how a cancer diagnosis can affect everything in someone’s life. That’s why the mobile team travels across the north west, visiting towns like Northwich, to provide practical, medical, financial and emotional support to local people right on their doorstep.

"We want people to know that whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.”

Since 2011, the Macmillan team has interacted with around 348 people in Northwich, during their visits to the market and Sainsburys in the town.

Across Cheshire, more than 23,400 people have visited Macmillan’s bus since 2011.
