AN event highlighting the choices available to pregnant women will be held in Warrington next month.

Featuring discussions and presentations from the NHS maternity service provider One to One Midwives, it aims to allow women and families to make an informed choice about birth.

Future mothers will also be able to chat about the care opportunities available to them throughout the pregnancy and after the birth.

Providing a community-based midwifery service, One to One Midwives has recently seen the birth of its 10,000th baby since starting in 2011.

Of these 10,000, more than 30 per cent of the babies have been home births.

When a woman first accesses One to One, she is allocated a dedicated midwife who will lead her through pregnancy, home birth if chosen and for up to six weeks of postnatal care.

The midwife will be available more than 24 hours a day for seven days a week, and her ‘buddy' will be available instead when she is on holiday.

Care takes place in the women’s homes at times to suit their needs and visits can take place in the evening or at weekends to ensure that partners are also active participants in the care.

There are no limits to the number of visits, and the woman and midwife will agree on how often the visits should take place.

Victoria Crook, organiser, said: “Many women do not know that they have a choice when it comes to their maternity care.

“We hope that events like this will raise awareness and empower women to have more control over their birth experiences”

The event will be held on Tuesday, July 2 at Warrington Pregnancy Advice Centre on Crosfield Street.

It will be free and light refreshments will be available.
