A DRIVER who was three times the drink-drive limit when breathalysed is facing a day in court.

The 33-year-old man from Crewe was pulled over in London Road, Northwich, last Sunday morning, June 9, at 2.30am.

He failed a roadside breath test after his white Ford Transit van was stopped, blowing 93 before the reading increased to 105 in custody.

The legal limit is 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The driver was subsequently charged with drink driving, before being released on bail ahead of an appearance at Chester Magistrates’ Court next Friday, June 28.

Police posted on Twitter on the morning of the incident: "A drink driver was arrested in Northwich overnight.

"A reading of 93 increased to 105 in custody. A day in court awaits, with a minimum 12-month ban.

"Whilst they will add to the #FatalFive statistics thankfully it's not an increase in lives lost on our roads. #NoneForTheRoad"

Later on June 9, police tweeted that a Mitsubishi Outlander – spotted 'weaving its way through Northwich' – had been stopped on the M6 and the driver arrested, again for blowing three times the legal drink-drive limit.

The polices 'Fatal Five' campaign highlights the five main contributory factors to serious road collisions in Cheshire.

They are drink and drug-driving, careless driving, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, and speeding.

In 2018, 46 people lost their lives in Cheshire road traffic collisions, and this year already has seen more than 20 fatalities on our roads.
