AN EVENT in memory of late MP Jo Cox will take place in Altrincham next weekend.

The event, named the Great Get Together will be held at Stamford Park on Saturday June 22.

Running from noon to 4pm, people will be able to enjoy free entertainment with live music by local and diverse artists and bands, arts and crafts workshops, bouncy castles and slides plus much more whilst enjoying food and conversation.

Local schools will showcase bands and choirs and there will be unique live entertainment including a Turkish folk band and a Blues Group.

Shahyda Chaudhry, AHMA Events Outreach Lead said: "This is a chance to really talk to one another in an atmosphere of family fun.

"We are asking everyone to bring along a picnic with a little extra to share and come together as one big Altrincham community.

"We are one rich community and, more than anything, we want people to come along and really talk to one another."

Jordan Tyms, Honorary Diversity and Inclusion Officer at Altrincham Football Club added: "We have witnessed horrific events that seek to drive a wedge between communities. This is a chance for us all to stand together as a united community; in respect, unity and love. What better way than at The Great Get Together?"

The Great Get Together has been co-sponsored by Altrincham Football Club, The Counselling and Family Centre, Altrincham and Hale Muslim Association, Fempower, Remembering Srebrenica, Nisa Nashim as well as many others.

The Great Get Together is inspired by Jo Cox, who was killed on June 16, 2016.

It has been arranged in the spirit of the motto, "We are far more united and have far more in common than that which divides us", which Jo Cox said during her first speech in Parliament.
