CAREFOUND Home Care have shown their baking and entertainment skills by holding a fundraising event in Wilmslow in aid of Alzheimer’s Society Cupcake Day.

In the average time it takes to bake a batch of cakes, six people in the UK will develop dementia and the condition is now the leading cause of death, overtaking both cancer and heart disease. In Cheshire East, there are over 6,300 older people living with dementia.

Cupcake Day is a national event encouraging local communities to dust off their baking bowls and whip out their whisks in aid of Alzheimer’s Society and it has raised over £2.7 million since 2016.

Staff from local home care provider, Carefound Home Care, have raised over £130 in Wilmslow where residents enjoyed homemade cakes accompanied by live music.

Sarah Vickers, recruitment & community manager at Carefound Home Care in Wilmslow, said: “As a specialist home care provider we are acutely aware of the impact dementia has on the lives of many families living in Cheshire East.

“We had great fun hosting our Cupcake Day in Wilmslow and are hugely grateful to our colleagues who showed their baking skills and the local people who supported the event.

“Supporting charities like Alzheimer’s Society is key to fighting dementia and just this money raised could pay for two people with dementia to attend Singing for the Brain sessions for one year, where they and their carers can come together for an hour each week to sing and dance with music.”
