A CHARITY providing emergency aid for refugees has given a fitting send off to its 50th shipping container of donations.

The truck carrying practical aid left Care UK – based at the former Co-op supermarket building off the gyratory – bound for Lesbos on June 1.

The 'Charity Aid Recycling Enterprise' has been using the building as a warehouse for the past 18 months, and has bases in Northwich, Warrington, north Wales and Manchester.

To mark the 50th donation, Care UK enlisted the help of Warrington South MP Faisal Rashid and two pipers – along with its huge team of volunteers – to load up and send off the container.

Nora Carlin, Care UK founder, said: "This was a perfect example of the true spirit of communities working together.

"We couldn’t do any of this without our amazing volunteers and the fabulous people of the north West, who donate their unwanted items to be reused, enabling us to help those in need, wherever they are."
