ENGINEERING works will take place on the Mid Cheshire Line during evenings and weekends later this month.

Buses will replace rail services on evening trains from Monday, June 24 to Thursday, June 27, and all day Sunday, June 30.

From Monday 24th June to Thursday 27th June, the 10.01pm and 10.58pm departing Chester for Manchester and the last train from Manchester Piccadilly to Chester, 11.41pm, will be replaced by bus services.

On Saturday 29th June the 10.48pm Chester to Manchester Piccadilly service will terminate at Northwich and a replacement bus will run between Northwich and Manchester Piccadilly.

The 11.41pm Manchester Piccadilly to Chester service will be a bus service, with the last evening train to Chester starting from Northwich at 12.36am.

On Sunday, June 30, all rail services on the Mid Cheshire Line will replaced by buses running between Stockport and Chester in both directions and calling at or near all stations.

There are no engineering works on Friday, June 28.

John Oates, chairman of the Mid Cheshire Rail Users Association said: “During the last week of June, there is late night engineering works on the Mid Cheshire Line every evening, except on the Friday, and the line is closed to rail services all day on Sunday 30th June.

“This means buses will replace rail services on the Line which connects Chester to Manchester via Northwich, Knutsford, Altrincham and Stockport.

“There is never a good time to carry out essential engineering work but sorting this vital work late evening and on a Sunday inconveniences fewer passengers than at other times.

“If you are travelling, MCRUA would like to remind passengers to check the bus replacement timetables carefully on the National Rail Journey Planner and to make sure you know where the bus replacement service departs from at your local station.

“Travelling by bus will take longer and remember non folding bicycles are not allowed on the bus services.

“Our advice is not to travel unless you have to as your journey will take longer than normal.”
