NEW play equipment is set to be installed in Leftwich after town chiefs received more than £5,000 from housing developer funds.

Northwich Town Council has received £5,004 to spend on improving the play area in Old Hall Road.

Members visited the site last month and were told at Monday’s meeting that a supplier had been found to provide the new equipment.

Town council staff will install the equipment, with town clerk Chris Shaw explaining that the aim is to buy ‘the most kit with the funds available’.

A new bin will also be installed in a more convenient location for the play area after councillors received reports of littering at the site.

Cllr Andrew Cooper said: “When we looked down there – clearly no one should be dropping litter anyway – but nonetheless the bin is currently located at the wrong side of the park.”

Meanwhile, the council is being forced to replace two pieces of play equipment in Winnington after they were targeted by vandals. It is currently looking for funding to replace the damaged equipment at the play area in Burnside Way over the next few weeks.

Cllr Kevin Rimmer, town mayor, said: “Obviously, these bits of kit don’t come cheap, and this is about the whole community – so it would be nice if the new stuff that goes in is not vandalised.”
